Before moving into tech, I was working as a mechanicalengineer developing medical devices — but I found myself gravitating more and more towards computer science. That was really appealing to me because I had been working on products that took over a year to launch, from beginning to end.
We sales guys always like to blame the product guys for missing a launch date, or we blame the marketing guys for not generating enough demand. Any fourth year mechanicalengineering student doing gear design problems knows several things—1: There’s friction between components–that friction creates energy loss.
More initiatives are launched, increasing the level of activity. Clausewitz (Carl von Clausewitz, a Prussian general) believed that friction was as inherent to war as it is to mechanicalengineering and could therefore never be eliminated but only mitigated. The psychological effect is increased confusion.
And my education, I went to MIT to study mechanicalengineering, and I think I would have thought I was going to go into the pump business like my father. And as a hobby we have just launched another SaaS company called ThreeKit. But I did become a Steelers fan and aspire to be an entrepreneur like my father.
